Bio

This is the blog of Paula do Prado, a Sydney based artist working with a range of media including textiles, photography, text, painting and object/installation.

Her art practice explores identity in relation to questions of authenticity, privilege and belonging.  Conceptually driven, her work attempts to tease out the politics of experience in connection to race, gender and cultural identity.  Paula's work is strongly influenced by both her Australian sense of identity and Afro-Uruguayan heritage, readily featuring 'dichos' or colloquial expressions in both Spanish and English.

She is currently developing new work for a collaborative exhibition to be held October 2011 and as a Master of Fine Art candidate is in the process of conducting research for her thesis and next major solo show in early 2012.  Paula recently presented a paper Writing from the margin:letters of resistance in the UK and has been selected to exhibit as part of the inaugural Tamworth Textile Triennial to tour Australia nationally from September 2011.

Paula do Prado is represented in Australia by Gallerysmith.
